Using our AOD refining process, we wire feed alloy additions which change the sulfide shape and enhances the machinability in types 303, 304, 316, and 416 stainless bar. The positive benefits from calcium treating and sulfur injection are as follows:

Reduces the oxygen content thus reducing formation and inclusion of silicates, aluminates, oxides and also increases the fluidity of the metal.

Changes the sulfur morphology to that of a complex globular inclusion from a stringer that tends to migrate to the grain boundaries. The stringers cause difficulty in hot working as well as machining.
